Ascend – Gamified Self-ImprovementTrain the mind. Rise.

Ascend is a free self-improvement app that plays like a game. Instead of one app for habits, another for your journal and another for goals, you log your habits, workouts, reading, skills and journal in one place, earn points for each one, rise through 9 ranks and climb weekly, monthly and 90-day leagues against real people.

What Ascend is

Self-improvement with a scoreboard

Most self-improvement apps do one thing: one tracks habits, another holds your journal, another tracks your time, another your goals. Ascend puts all of it in one app and turns your whole day into a season: the work you put in becomes points, the points become a rank, and the leagues show how your week compares with everyone else’s.

  1. Step 1

    Log what you do

Tick off habits, log a workout, read a few pages, write today’s entry. Each one earns points.

  2. Step 2

    Rank up

Season points move you up 9 ranks, from Beginner to Master. Missing a habit you chose costs points.

  3. Step 3

    Compete

Weekly, monthly and 90-day leagues rank everyone by the points they earned, so every week is a new race.

One app, and a reason to keep going

Why Ascend

  • All in one app

Habits, bad habits, workouts, reading, skills, journal, time blocks, weekly goals and projects live together. No switching between five apps, and nothing forgotten because it was in the wrong one.

  • Competition that builds you

You compete with real people in weekly, monthly and 90-day leagues. Beating someone feels as good as it does in a game, but every point came from something that made you better.

  • An honest score

Everything you log adds to one total, and skipping a habit you chose costs points. Doing nothing is never neutral, so your rank shows how you really did.

  • Free, on phone and PC

No download and no payment. Open it in the browser or install it like an app.

How it works

Points, ranks and leagues

The rules are the same for everyone and fully shown in the app. Here they are in short.

What earns points

Most things have a daily cap, so one long session can’t buy a rank.

Habits
1–3 points for each library habit you complete, up to 10 a day.
Bad habits
1–3 points for each day you resist, up to 6 a day.
Exercise
1 point per 6 minutes, 10 reps, 1 set or 1 km, up to 10 a day.
Reading
1 point per 2 pages or 10 per chapter, up to 10 a day, plus 15 for finishing a book.
Skills
1 point per 12 minutes of practice, up to 10 a day.
Focus timer
25 min = 2, 50 min = 5, 90 min = 10, up to 10 a day.
Time Tracker
5 points for finishing 80% of the day’s blocks, 3 for 50%.
Journal
2 points for each day’s entry.
Weekly goals
5 points per goal reached (the first 3 count), plus 5 for the weekend reflection.
Recovery
10, 25 and 50 points at one week, one month and 90 days clean.
Lessons
1–2 points for each of the 14 lessons, once a season.

And what costs points. Missing a library habit, slipping on a bad habit or not logging one takes points away, and the cost grows when it keeps happening. Projects, plans and partner challenges are for planning and support, so they don’t earn points.

Three leagues, always running

  • Weekly starts again every Monday at 00:00 UTC.
  • Monthly starts again on the 1st of each month (UTC).
  • 90-Day is the season. When it ends, final standings are kept and every rank starts again from Beginner.
How leagues work

9 ranks per season

Season points move you up. Master needs 5,000.

  1. Beginner, 0 points
  2. Starter, 200 points
  3. Learner, 500 points
  4. Trainer, 900 points
  5. Achiever, 1,400 points
  6. Performer, 2,000 points
  7. Expert, 2,700 points
  8. Leader, 3,500 points
  9. Master, 5,000 points

Why I built Ascend

People love to compete: in grades, jobs and sport. When real life doesn’t give that drive a good place to go, it finds one anyway. For some of us it’s a competitive game. For others it’s followers and likes, who has the better phone or bike, or winning every argument in the comments. The drive is real; it’s just aimed at things that leave us with nothing at the end.

I kept asking what would happen if that same drive went into the right place. You’d still get the competition, but at the end of a season you’d also have read more, trained more and kept more of your habits.

The league gets you started, but the one really worth beating is who you were yesterday. It only works if you’re honest with yourself. The points are there to push you; the real prize is what changes in you.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Is Ascend free?

Yes. Every feature is free while Ascend is in beta, and there are no payments anywhere in the app.

Is there an Ascend app for Android, iPhone or PC?

Ascend is a web app, so it runs in the browser on any phone, tablet or computer. You can add it to your home screen or install it from the browser, and it then opens like any other app. It isn’t in the app stores yet.

Do I need an account?

No. You can start as a guest and try everything, then save your progress to a free account with a username and email whenever you like. You need to be at least 13 to use Ascend.

How do points and ranks work?

What you log earns points, with a daily cap on most things so one long session can’t buy a rank. Missing a library habit or slipping on a bad habit costs points. Your season points move you through 9 ranks, from Beginner to Master at 5,000 points. More about ranks

What happens when a season ends?

A season lasts 90 days. When it ends, the final standings are kept, and everyone’s rank and season points start again from Beginner, so a new player always has a real chance.

Who can see what I log?

Your journal, moods, cravings and recovery tracker are visible only to you, and your data is never sold. In the leagues, other people see your username, avatar and points, and more only if you make your profile public. The Privacy Policy says exactly what is stored and why.

Is Ascend a medical or therapy app?

No. The recovery tracker, the focus tools and the brain lessons are for tracking and motivation, not medical treatment or therapy. If you are struggling, please contact a licensed professional or a helpline in your country.

Is this the same as other apps called Ascend?

No. Several unrelated apps share the name. This Ascend is the gamified self-improvement web app made by Zakria Khan at ascendday.com, and it is not connected to any of them.
